JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, has assured that rice stocks in Papua are secure for up to four months. He made this statement following an inspection of the Logistics Agency Warehouse in Tasangka, Jayapura, Papua, on Friday (August 22, 2025).
“From the perspective of availability at the Logistics Agency warehouse, it is still sufficient for four months because there will be regular distributions coming in,” said Fatoni.
The rice stock at the Logistics Agency Warehouse itself reaches 10,000 tons, and these stocks are also distributed across Logistics Agency Warehouses in Biak and Yapen.
In addition to inspecting rice availability at the Logistics Agency, Fatoni also checked prices at retail outlets. His observations showed that rice prices in the market remain generally stable.
“Based on price monitoring in the field, prices are still stable. In some places, there have been increases of IDR 2,000–3,000, but in the locations we visited, prices remain the same because old stock is still available,” Fatoni said.
“It is expected that stocks will continue to flow from the market to other regions in Papua,” he added.
Finally, Fatoni also inspected a private rice warehouse, Irian Jaya Sehat Warehouse, located in Entrop, Jayapura, Papua. He found that the warehouse holds 375 tons of rice.
“Our task as the government, together with the Logistics Agency, local government agencies, and other parties, including the private sector, is to ensure smooth stock distribution from warehouses, including to retail and sellers,” Fatoni stated.
On the same occasion, Ahmad Mustari, Head of Logistics Agency for Papua and West Papua, also confirmed that rice supply in Papua is secure for the next four months. All stocks will continue to be distributed to markets and local retailers, ensuring that the public has access to rice at affordable prices.
“The stock for the next four months is 10,000 tons, which is sufficient to meet public needs during this period,” Ahmad said. ***
