JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government and the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assist and support the acceleration of the establishment of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Office in Papua. The signing took place after a meeting and consolidation between the Committee for Household Affairs of the DPD RI and Acting Governor Agus Fatoni at the Papua Governor’s Office, Jayapura, Papua, Monday (15/09/2025).
Fatoni welcomed the plan to build the office of the DPD RI in Papua Province.
“We discussed many things earlier, one of which was the preparation for the DPD RI Office in Papua, located in Jayapura,” said Fatoni.
Through this meeting, the Papua Provincial Government and the DPD RI agreed on a short-term plan regarding the establishment of the DPD RI Office. It was decided that the DPD Office in Jayapura would later occupy the 13th floor of the Papua People’s Assembly Office, known as the Tifa Building.
“Of course, this will be under a loan-use scheme, with mechanisms adjusted according to the prevailing laws and regulations,” Fatoni explained.
“It is hoped that the people of Papua will later be able to convey their aspirations and hold discussions with members of the DPD RI, who represent them, at the Tifa Building,” he added.
On the same occasion, the Chair of the Committee for Household Affairs of the Regional Representative Council, Hasan Basri, emphasized the importance of establishing a DPD RI Office in Papua Province. This is because Papua is the parent province of the newly established provinces in the Papua region.
“We cannot let the parent province, Papua, remain without a DPD RI Office because this is crucial for regional interests,” he stated.
Regarding the short-term plan, the DPD RI Office will temporarily be located on the 13th floor of the Papua People’s Assembly Office, known as the Tifa Building. He expressed hope that the Secretariat could immediately follow up so the office could start operating.
“As for funding needs and other matters, we at the DPD RI will prepare them in the 2026 budget so this plan can be carried out. Hopefully, with the presence of the DPD RI Office in the region, it will bring benefits to both the people of Papua and Indonesia,” said Hasan. ***
