JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, welcomed the plan to establish the office of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) in Papua Province. He conveyed this during a consolidation meeting between the Household Affairs Committee (PURT) of the Regional Representative Council and the Papua Provincial Government at the Papua Governor’s Office in Jayapura, Monday (15/09/2025).
“We discussed many matters earlier, one of which was the preparation for the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia office in Papua, located in Jayapura,” said Fatoni.
Through this meeting, the Papua Provincial Government and the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia agreed on a short-term plan for establishing the office. It was decided that the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia Office in Jayapura will occupy the 13th floor of the Papua People’s Assembly Office, known as the Tifa Building.
“This will be arranged under a loan-use scheme, with mechanisms adjusted according to laws and regulations,” Fatoni explained.
He added, “It is hoped that the people of Papua will later be able to express their aspirations and engage in discussions with members of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, who are their representatives, at the Tifa Building.”
On the same occasion, Hasan Basri, Chair of the Household Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of having the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia Office in Papua Province, as it is the parent province of the newly expanded regions in Papua.
“Papua, as the parent province, must not be without a Regional Representative Council office, as this serves the interests of the region,” he stated.
Regarding the short-term plan, the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia Office will temporarily be located on the 13th floor of the Papua People’s Assembly Office (Tifa Building). Hasan expressed hope that the Secretariat could immediately follow up so that the office can begin operating.
“Regarding budgetary needs and related matters, we at the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia will prepare them in the 2026 budget to ensure this plan is realized. Hopefully, the presence of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia Office in the region will benefit both the people of Papua and Indonesia,” said Hasan.
During the event, Acting Governor Agus Fatoni and Hasan Basri signed an MoU to accelerate the establishment of the Regional Representative Council Office in Papua.
The event was attended by Hasan Basri, members of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, representatives of the Papua People’s Assembly (MRP), the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, and other guests. ***
