JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, praised Traimelyan Village in Arso 12, Skanto District, Keerom Regency, as a model of religious tolerance.
In the village, three houses of worship stand side by side—a Hindu temple, a church, and a mosque.
“You can truly feel the spirit of tolerance here. A church, a temple, and a mosque are all built within the same complex,” Fatoni said.
He noted that residents live peacefully, support one another, and work together in harmony. According to him, this coexistence should serve as an example for other regions.
“This is proof that houses of worship can stand together in one place while the community lives in peace and tolerance,” he added.
Fatoni also emphasized that Traimelyan reflects Papua’s long-standing reputation as a land of peace.
“This is the reality—Papua is peaceful and safe. The people are tolerant, live side by side in harmony, and help one another,” he said.
He expressed hope that future leaders, along with local governments and communities, will continue to support the development of public facilities such as houses of worship, schools, dormitories, and orphanages.
“There must be stronger support so people can live better, pursue education, and achieve their dreams—for a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Papua,” Fatoni concluded. ***
