The Papua Provincial Government has officially issued a circular letter on the supervision, control, and distribution of locally produced chicken eggs to maintain availability and supply stability across Papua.
JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has officially issued a circular letter on the supervision, control, and distribution of locally produced chicken eggs to maintain availability and supply stability across Papua.
The circular letter, signed by Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri, is addressed to all regents/mayors, relevant government agencies, business operators, distributors, and egg farmers’ associations in Papua. The policy represents a strategic step by the regional government to strengthen food security, particularly for chicken eggs.
The circular stipulates that regency/city governments must prioritize the purchase and absorption of locally produced chicken eggs from local farmers. This measure will be implemented through stronger distribution systems, trade facilitation, and business partnerships to expand market access for farmers in Papua.
In addition, business operators, including distributors, agents, wholesalers, modern retailers, restaurants, and other food businesses, are required to prioritize the use of locally produced eggs in meeting community demand. Eggs distributed to the market must also comply with quality, food safety, and market requirements.
The government also stipulates that the entry of chicken eggs for consumption from outside Papua is only permitted when local production is insufficient to meet community demand. This will be determined based on the provincial egg commodity food balance.
To ensure effective implementation of the policy, government agencies responsible for food, livestock, and trade affairs have been instructed to monitor egg stocks, production, and distribution within their respective areas.
In the event of a supply shortage in a particular area, regency/city governments may take coordinated measures, including interregional cooperation and the distribution of eggs from surplus areas to deficit areas.
The circular letter also strictly regulates the entry of Day-Old Chicks (DOC) and eggs from outside the region. All incoming products must meet requirements, including animal health recommendations, quarantine documents, quota permits, and recommendations from local livestock farmers’ associations.
Furthermore, regional governments are required to submit monthly reports on production, stocks, consumption needs, prices, distribution, and the volume of eggs entering Papua from outside the region. These data will serve as a basis for preparing projections of the regional food balance.
Supervision will be conducted jointly by the Food Task Force and relevant agencies, including law enforcement authorities and port management. Monitoring locations will include entry points for goods, distributor warehouses, traditional markets, and modern retail outlets.
The government also emphasized that strict sanctions will be imposed on business operators who violate the provisions, ranging from temporary suspension of distribution activities to revocation of business licenses in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized that the policy reflects the government’s commitment to protecting local farmers while maintaining price stability and food availability for the community.
“By strengthening local production and distribution, we want to ensure that community needs are met while improving the welfare of farmers in Papua,” he stressed.
The circular letter takes effect from the date of issuance and will be evaluated periodically based on developments in supply conditions, prices, and community needs. ***
