JAYAPURA – A total of 681 match numbers have been completed during the implementation of National Sports Week XX 2021 Papua and West Java successfully defended the general champion after previously achieving the same achievement in 2016.

Winning 133 gold, 105 silver and 115 bronze, West Java has proven that their sports coaching is the best of Indonesia's 34 provinces.

In addition to being the general champion, West Java also became the contingent with the most medals: 353 medals.

Furthermore, the second position, successfully achieved by DKI Jakarta who could only secure the position on the last day of National Sports Week implementation, or after the women's handball team managed to donate gold.

Although DKI Jakarta got 110 gold, the same as East Java got , DKI Jakarta excels in terms of silver acquisition, which is as many as 91 pieces, while East Java got 89 silver.

The contingent of Papuan hosts, finally able to carve history with the achievement of medals and the highest ranking during the participation in National Sports Week.

This time, Papua managed to finish in fourth position with 93 gold, 66 silver and 102 bronze.

Papua's best achievement occurred in National Sports Week XI in Jakarta in 1985. At that time, Papua finished fifth by collecting 23 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze medals with a total of 73 medals.

Then the Bali Contingent finally managed to shift Central Java from the fifth position with 28 gold, 25 silver and 23 bronze.

While Central Java had to settle for being ranked sixth because it was only able to collect 27 gold, 47 silver and 64 bronze.

Of the 34 provinces that participated in National Sports Week XX Papua, 32 provinces managed to secure gold medals, only North Maluku and West Sulawesi did not succeed in winning gold and silver.

National Sports Week XX 2021 Papua match started on September 22, 2021 and ended on October 14, 2021.

A total of 7,039 athletes have competed with each other to carve out the best achievements in the four organizing clusters, namely in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency and Mimika Regency.

There are 37 sports with 56 disciplines raced.
