JAYAPURA – The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Papua Province held a Provincial Working Meeting centered at Wisma Atlet, Friday (1/4/2022) night.

Attended by KONI Regency / City throughout Papua, this Provincial Working Meeting was opened by the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun.

In his remarks Ridwan said the Papua Provincial Government has successfully built and implemented National Sports Week (PON XX) and National Paralympic Week (Peparnas XVI).

Therefore, through the meeting, the Regional Secretary hopes to encourage the spirit of all parties in KONI throughout Papua to produce more measurable and modern athlete achievement coaching. 

"Including maintaining government facilities for the advancement of Papuan athletes in the future," the Secretary urged.

Vice chairman of Central KONI, Maj. Gen. Purn Suwarno, appreciated the work meeting held by KONI Papua. According to him, this is an evaluation of athlete achievements in PON XX Papua last year and Papua's readiness to PON in 2024 in Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces.

"It is definitely a very strategic momentum that will first be used as a medium of evaluation of PON XX violations, then to compile a program related to preparations for PON 2024," he said.

Suwarno added, KONI Papua also needs to take caderization steps towards PON 2024, because next year there will be a PON qualifying round. "So this year is the year of preparation to go to the qualifying round".

"Also no less important, the management of KONI Papua will end this year, so the implementation of this Provincial Working Meeting also discusses the KONI Deliberations. So that the hope from now on has been discussed about the requirements of the upcoming chairman candidates, including the formation of a networking committee," he said.

General Secretary of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya said the purpose of the working meeting was to compile an annual program because it was also attended by KONI members of district and city

"In essence, this meeting discussed the achievement sports coaching program. Then it will also authorize several sports or refuse sports to become members of KONI, including the agreement on the timing of provincial deliberations," he explained. ***
