PALEMBANG - The Papua Women's Street Soccer Team contributed a gold medal at the VI National Recreational Sports Festival (Fornas) Palembang, South Sumatra.
Competing at Jakabaring Sport City Palembang, Tuesday (5/7/2022) the Papua women's street soccer team managed to qualify for the second round after defeating representatives from Banyu Asin, South Sumatra with a score of 6-4, so they were entitled to qualify for the semifinals.
Previously, in the semifinal round, the Papua Women Street Soccer team was faced with representatives from West Sumatra. With qualified players, they managed to qualify for the final round after defeating their opponents with a score of 6-2.
The best performance was again shown by the Papuan Women Street Soccer team in the final match when challenged by West Sumatra. Since the whistle sounded, the attack was directly launched into the opponent's goal. As a result, the victory was achieved with a crushing score of 7-2.
"This is the first time the Papuan street soccer team has participated in FORNAS and can come out as the first winner. Of course, we dedicate this victory to the people of “Bumi Cenderawasih,” said the Coach, Jimmy Iro in Palembang.
According to him, his team only made preparations for three weeks, but they had players who had football experience both in futsal and the big field, they were finally able to play very well.
"Although there are still many shortcomings, I am very proud that they can play their best," he said.
After FORNAS, he added, in the future the management of the Indonesian Street Soccer Association or Perssoci Papua will socialize and develop street soccer in Papua through several regencies/cities that we have collaborated with.
"For now, the players we have recruited from Jayapura Regency and City and we hope to develop even more," he said. ***
