JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government encourages the commitment of regents and mayors to intensively socialize the Regional Regulation for alcohol drinking.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Papua Province Welliam R. Manderi in Jayapura, Thursday.
"The eradication of alcohol drinking must be accompanied by the cooperation of all regional leaders. For that we will encourage every district / city to socialize the Regional Regulation for alcohol drinking".
"In essence, we will continue to communicate so that the published Regional Regulation alcohol drinking can be translated properly by each regional head," he explained.
Manderi said that the Papua Provincial Government through the local Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) will continue to socialize the ban on alcohol drinking. Socialization is a follow-up in taking steps and law enforcement efforts in the regions.
"We are taking restrictive measures on banning the production, circulation and sale of them but there are some difficulties that are bumped up with the regulations."
"There are some who have implemented the regulation on the prohibition of alcohol drinking. That's why we appreciate that this is causing criminality. So it is very important that we enforce local regulations to save the young generation," he explained.
The Papua Provincial Government had previously issued Regional Regulation number 15 of 2013 which was amended to Regional Regulation number 22 of 2016 concerning the prohibition of the production, circulation and sale of alcoholic beverages in Papua.
Meanwhile, the Papua Provincial Government has destroyed 46,119 bottles of alcohol from 2010 to 2018. ***
