JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government encourages the construction of food barns in 10 districts, to be carried out in areas prone to social conflict.
The ten districts according to the Head of the Social Population and Civil Registry Service of Papua Province, Rebekah Haluk, including Intan Jaya, Nduga, Lanny Jaya, Paniai, Puncak and Jayawijaya which are transit areas to mountainous areas.
"And to realize it, the cooperation of all agencies such as agriculture and other related agencies is needed".
"Also from the local district government," Rebekah explained in Jayapura on Friday.
Rebekah on the occasion welcomed the central government's policy. Because the existence of food barns is very important to anticipate extraordinary events or disasters that have the potential to cause a shortage of food supply for affected residents.
"We think there needs to be a food barn and this has been included in the Ministry of Social Affairs program".
"The point is that food barns are a good breakthrough, especially for Papua, especially for disaster-prone areas. Therefore, we hope it can be carried out so that it will help the areas that are often affected by natural disasters," she explained.
The Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on one occasion stated that it would establish social granaries in a number of districts, Papua Province.
"I will prepare a social granary in Jayapura. The location will be prepared by the mayor. It can also be used as a training center for Social Welfare Education and Training /BBPPKS of Jayapura," said Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini when visiting the Tagana Main Post in Jayapura. ***
