JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government through the local Food Crops, Horticulture and Food Office invites farmers to switch to organic fertilizers, to help create an optimal environment in Papua.
"We have started to introduce organic fertilizers to people who are caring for plants in their yards or farmers."
"The use of organic fertilizer has many benefits, it can reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and contribute to carbon balance in the soil," explained the Head of the Papua Food Crops, Horticulture and Food Office, Semuel Siriwa in Jayapura City, Tuesday (26/3/2024).
According to him, his agency provides local organic fertilizer for the community or farmers in need. The farmers just go to the nearest Regional Integrated Service Unit (UPTD) in each region to pick it up.
As for the quality of fertilizer, Semuel guarantees that there will be no contamination with chemicals. The production of seeds is carried out in various ways, namely fertilizer to plant, treat and repair damaged plants.
"So that the handling is more targeted. There is no need to fear contamination with chemicals because this is organic."
"The point is that the provision of organic fertilizer has been produced for a long time, but there is indeed a lack of socialization because the amount is still limited. The raw materials are also all plants around. So that people and farmers may come to our nearest UPTD," he said. ***
