JAYAPURA - Regency and City Governments throughout Papua are urged to prepare job opportunities for graduates of Special Needs School (SLB).So that the skills obtained by graduates during school do not become in vain.
"This job vacancy has not been well prepared yet."
"Our advice is important for the government and the wider community to provide support and opportunities for Special Need School graduates to work," said Head of Special Education of the Papua Education Office, Launrens Wantik, in Jayapura, Friday (3/5/2024).
According to him, extraordinary education in Papua needs more attention from the government in regencies and cities. In addition to preparing employment, the provision of supporting facilities and infrastructure in schools is also critical.
The goal, among others, is to improve access and quality of education for children with special needs.
"The first thing that needs government attention is the provision of practical tools for SLB".
"This SLB is similar to a Vocational High School, so it's more practical than academic. It needs the government's attention to provide equipment, practice equipment or tools and other things, "he said.
Launrens on that occasion highlighted the rampant negative stigma against children with special needs. Even though they have extraordinary physical skills.
"They have carpentry skills, they are intelligent in communication."
"They can contribute positively in the world of work, not because their physique under certain conditions is all impossible," he said. ***
