JAYAPURA - Acting Papua Regional Secretary Derek Hegemur confirmed that his government is trying to reduce dependence on the mining sector.
The government is currently encouraging the development of a green economy and prioritizing on the plantation, agriculture and forestry sectors.
"For example, Papua has now succeeded in exporting cocoa beans. And this signifies positive progress in the regional economy. The point is that Papua is developing in a better direction, we want the people to produce to improve the regional economy,"said Derek, Monday (6/5/2024), in Jayapura City.
In addition to the green economy, continued Derek, Papua Province is leading to blue economy development that focuses on developing the marine and agricultural sectors.
By developing the green economy and blue economy Papua will get out from the comfort zone of leaving dependence on the mining sector.
"It's just not leaving the mining sector either. But we pay attention to the potential of the mine," he said.
Through the development of green and blue economies, Derek hopes to create more new jobs, especially for indigenous communities in the local area. So that they can increase the income and life well-being of a brand. ***
