JAYAPURA - To facilitate reading services for Papuan children, the Papua Provincial Government is now creating regional library services in the village area to access the desired knowledge and information.
In addition to increasing interest in reading, this service is one of the programs or facilities to educate the nation's children.
"Reading interest in Papua Province is still low, so we are trying to provide facilities and reading materials for children under their needs and desires, especially in villages," explained Acting Head of the Papua Regional Archives and Library Service, Achmad Djalali in Jayapura, Thursday.
According to Achmad, the village library service will be a reading garden and reading house for children.
The service will be a library development program including cultural activities for reading at the regional level.
In addition, he continued, another effort is to collaborate with the Central Government to improve literacy development programs based on social inclusion. "But actually, this program has been running since 2020, and specifically for Papua Province, there are four city districts that have received this target."
"Namely in the Yapen Islands, Supiori, Jayapura and Jayapura City. Even now there has been replication or development in 20 villages spread across these areas," he said. ***
