JAYAPURA – To ensure technical and coordination readiness for the Papua Gubernatorial Election Re-vote (PSU), the Re-vote Task Force held the first monitoring meeting at the Re-vote Secretariat located at the Office of the Papua Provincial Communication and Information Agency (June 20).
The meeting was chaired by the Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Suzana Wanggai, who is also responsible for the Re-vote Task Force, accompanied by Assistant I to the Regional Secretary, Yohanes Walilo, as Chair of the Task Force.
In her remarks, the Acting Secretary emphasized the importance of synergy and readiness from all parties to ensure the success of the Papua gubernatorial Re-vote scheduled for August 6, 2025. She outlined several key points, including:
The General Elections Commission must ensure that all Re-vote stages proceed according to regulations and on schedule.
Grant funds distributed to the General Elections Commission, Election Supervisory Board and the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police must be used optimally to support smooth implementation.
All coordination and stakeholder meetings must be centralized at the Re-vote Secretariat.
The Election Supervisory Board is urged to strengthen supervision, particularly on social media, where political tensions are rising, during the preparation, implementation, and vote recapitulation stages.
“We want to ensure that the Re-vote is carried out in an orderly, safe, and timely manner. All parties must work professionally and transparently, and maintain neutrality to protect the integrity of the democratic process,” said Suzana.
“I also stress the importance of accountable and measurable use of the budget. The grant funds provided must be strictly focused on supporting re-vote operations,” she added.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Re-vote Task Force, Yohanes Walilo called on all Task Force members to strengthen coordination and provide updated data on re-vote stages, including the social and security situation in the community.
“I urge everyone to help promote this democratic agenda to the public so that the people of Papua can exercise their political rights peacefully and actively on August 6, 2025,” Yohanes asserted.
During the meeting, the Papua General Elections Commission, represented by a Secretariat official, presented updates on the PSU stages and the logistics distribution process to nine districts/cities in the Papua Province, which is currently said to be on schedule.
The chairman of the Papua Election Supervisory Board, Hardin Halidin, also reported on follow-ups to several field findings related to the candidacy and campaign stages, as well as some direct complaints from the public and forwarded reports from the Election Supervisory Board of the Republic of Indonesia.
Representatives from the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police also provided input regarding security and logistics distribution. They emphasized the need for mitigation strategies to address potential geographical obstacles and highlighted the importance of coordination with intelligence agencies such as BIN and BAIS for early anticipation of possible security risks.
This monitoring meeting marks a strategic first step in strengthening inter-agency coordination to ensure a democratic, safe, and participatory re-vote for the Gubernatorial Election in Papua. ***
