SARMI – After visiting theSekolah Rakyat, Acting Governor of Papua Agus Fatoni continued his agenda by visiting the Mararena Central Market. On this occasion, Fatoni officially launched the distribution of government rice reserves for the June–July 2025 food assistance program in Sarmi Regency.
“Today, rice will be distributed to 2,996 residents across 10 districts, with a total amount of 47.96 tons for the people of Sarmi Regency,” said Fatoni at Mararena Central Market, Sarmi, Papua, Friday (25/07/2025).
As is known, Sarmi Regency consists of 10 districts: Sarmi, Tor Atas, Pantai Barat, Pantai Timur, Bonggo, Apawer Hulu, Sarmi Selatan, Sarmi Timur, Pantai Timur Bagian Tengah, and Bonggo Timur.
During the visit, Fatoni also toured the inside of Sarmi Central Market. There, he spoke with local vendors and checked the prices of various basic commodities.
Most staple food prices—such as chili, shallots, garlic, and tomatoes—were reported to be rising slightly, though still fluctuating. However, rice prices remained stable with no significant increase.
“The price of tempeh is stable, right? No increase? This is locally made tempeh?" Fatoni asked.
“So, rice remains steady, and there’s a slight increase in cooking oil prices,” he added.
One of the vendors mentioned that egg prices also remained stable, as the supply comes from local poultry farmers.
“Sugar prices are rising, but egg prices remain the same due to partnerships with local farmers,” said the vendor. ***
