SERUI— The Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni, inspected the kitchen of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit in Serui City, Yapen Islands Regency. The visit aimed to monitor and ensure the quality of the Free Nutritious Meals distributed to 3,955 school children in the region.
“We are currently at the Free Nutritious Meals kitchen located in Yapen Islands, observing the entire meal preparation process — from receiving raw materials, processing, to distribution to the school children,” Fatoni stated during his visit on Thursday.
During the inspection, Governor Fatoni reviewed several facilities within the kitchen, including the nutrition consultation room, staff room, production and storage areas, food inspection room, and packaging section. He also verified the safety and quality of the stoves used by kitchen staff.
Yapen Islands currently operates three kitchens of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit, the Serui City kitchen having been in operation since February 2025.
“This kitchen is well-established and functioning effectively. In addition to Serui, there are two other kitchens in Yapen Islands, with plans to open more,” Fatoni noted.
The Free Nutritious Meals program, initiated by President Prabowo, aims to provide healthy and nutritious meals to school children across Indonesia, including Papua. Fatoni emphasized the program’s importance for supporting child nutrition and development.
