JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has called on nine regencies and municipalities in Papua to anticipate increased rainfall toward the end of the year.
Acting Head of Papua BPBD, B. Wisnu Raditya, stated that in preparation for high rainfall, his office is maintaining regular coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as well as with BPBD offices in the nine regencies and municipalities across Papua.
“We have also conveyed the directives from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). We hope these directives will be properly followed up by the local BPBDs,” Wisnu said.
He added that BPBDs at the regency and municipal levels must strengthen mitigation measures with the support of all stakeholders. He also urged communities to help by maintaining their surroundings—particularly by keeping waterways and drainage systems clear of garbage—given the increasingly extreme weather conditions ahead.
“We hope everyone can cooperate and work together in synergy to prevent or respond effectively to heavy rainfall that could potentially cause flooding,” he concluded. ***
