JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government will organize discount market operations in two locations — Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.
The program aims to help residents prepare their necessities ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Office of Trade and Industry, Hartati Sofia Iwanggin, said that the discount markets will take place in early December and mid-December 2025.
“The discount market is intended to help meet the needs of the community, especially those celebrating Christmas,” Hartati said.
To maintain the stability of food supplies and prices, Hartati added that her office will conduct on-site monitoring and inspections.
“We will ensure that staple goods most in demand before Christmas are well-stocked so that public needs can be properly met,” she explained.
Based on field monitoring, Hartati reported that staple food prices have remained stable so far.
“In fact, during the Inflation Coordination Meeting, our inflation rate was recorded as one of the lowest,” she noted.
Ahead of the festive season, she also urged the public not to engage in panic buying and to shop according to their actual needs.
“We will continue to ensure the availability of key commodities so that prices remain stable. We hope that as Christmas and New Year approach, any price increases will remain minimal,” she concluded. ***
