JAYAPURA – The Governor of Papua, Matius D. Fakhiri, has instructed the Regional Inflation Control Teams at both the regency/city and provincial levels to intensify monitoring of basic necessity prices ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“So that as we approach the Christmas and New Year period, prices remain stable and essential goods are available. This will allow residents to celebrate Christmas in their hometowns,” the governor said on Wednesday (26/11).
The governor stressed that the availability of goods must be ensured and that there should be no price manipulation. He also highlighted the need to anticipate the movement of people from urban areas to the regencies during the holiday period.
“As people shift from cities to the regencies, I expect the regencies to be prepared as well,” he noted.
The governor added that the global and national economic situation remains uncertain. Various challenges—from fluctuations in global commodity prices to supply chain disruptions—have directly or indirectly affected the inflation rate in Papua Province.
The central government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, regularly holds weekly Coordination Meetings on Inflation Control attended by Regional Inflation Control Teams. These meetings aim to help regional governments monitor market price movements, ensure stable supplies of essential goods, maintain smooth transportation and distribution, and keep prices affordable for the public.
“My appreciation goes to the Papua Provincial Inflation Control Teams, who have worked diligently and performed optimally to keep our inflation rate under control,” he concluded. ***
