JAYAPURA — The Papua Provincial Government is strengthening collaboration with universities to address the shortage of teachers at various levels of education. This step is part of efforts to improve the quality of human resources in the region.
Acting Regional Secretary of Papua, Christian Sohilait, said that cooperation with universities is an important strategy in preparing the teaching workforce needed in Papua.
"Universities are very important partners in helping the government in many ways, including preparing teaching personnel," Christian said in Jayapura on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).
According to him, the regional government continues to encourage universities to play an active role in producing qualified teachers who are ready to be assigned to various areas, including regions with limited access.
This effort is being carried out as Papua still faces a need for teachers at the elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, which must be fulfilled gradually.
In addition, collaboration with universities is also expected to help the government respond to various challenges in the education sector, including improving the quality of learning and addressing social issues among students.
Christian added that although the regional government is facing fiscal limitations, synergy with universities remains a strategic step to ensure that human resource development continues.
The Papua Provincial Government hopes that this collaboration will have a tangible impact on meeting the need for teaching personnel and improving the quality of education in Papua. ***
