JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government through the local Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) provides tuition assistance or scholarships to 12 universities in Jayapura City and  Jayapura Regency.

The scholarship was awarded to 1,436 students in order to accelerate the completion of studies and the development of human resource competitiveness, especially indigenous Papuans (OAP).

The Expert Staff of the Governor of Papua for Special Autonomy, Triwarno Purnomo, said the awarding of scholarships aims to help students who are hampered by financial problems in completing their studies.

"Because many of our children have good academic ability, but come from families that cannot afford it. So you have to try to find additional costs by working as a laborer and so on."

"That's why the government provides assistance, moreover this condition received special attention from the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe. So he took the policy of providing scholarship assistance for thousands of students who could not afford this," he explained to the press, at the State Building, Jayapura, Thursday (2/9/2021).

While 12 universities received tuition assistance, namely STT GIDI Papua 200 students (S1), 200 students of STIPER Sentani (S1), 188 students of STT Is Kijne Papua (S1), 33 students of Indonesian Institute of Cultural Arts Indonesia (S1), 102 students of Muhammadiyah Jayapura University (S1) and 100 students of  Ottow Geissler University Papua (S1).

Then Cenderawasih University doctor profession 137 (S1) people and 9 people S3 education for lecturers, 100 students of STIE Port Numbay (S1), 100 students of USTJ (S1), 71 students of STIH Jayapura (S1), 100 students of STISP Jayapura (S1) and 100 students of Uniyap Papua (S1).

Head of Human Resources Development Agency of Papua, Aryoko Rumaropen said the provision of students from Papua, has been done since 2012 to 2020, with a total of 1,884 students.

Among them are 1,156 students who are recipients of domestic scholarships, with study locations in 19 cities (Indonesia). A total of 688 students studied abroad, in 15 countries and 160 colleges.

"Where the policy has become a strong commitment of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe to create superior Papuan human resources, so that it is expected to create a better quality of life for the community in the future," he said.

It is known, the awarding of scholarships is also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe together with the Rectors and the Chairman of the Higher School and the Director of Polytechnics. ***
