JAYAPURA - National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) XVI Papua 2021 is preparing to be held on November 2 until November 15, 2021.
A total of 280 Papuan athletes who have been confirmed ready to compete in the sports event with disabilities, released symbolically by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, Friday (10/29/2021) afternoon.
Governor Lukas in his speech said he was ready to encourage and give fighting spirit to the entire Papuan Contingent.
"Bring hope and the good name of Papuan. The Government of Papua will appreciate the achievements of the athletes," he hoped.
"The implementation of National Paralympic Week XVI is a very important part of the Papua Government's efforts to build and encourage equal rights and positions for People with Disabilities to develop their potential in Sports," said the Governor.
According to the Governor, there is a lot of evidence that disabled athletes can achieve the highest results in the world of sports even more than non-disabled athletes. That is why the equality of the right is used as an important momentum in the implementation of National Paralympic Week XVI.
"That's why I give appreciation to the Chairman of NPCI Papua who has prepared National Paralympic Week XVI athletes from Papua, so that according to the report, we are ready to fight for medals at peparnas XVI Papua," he said.
The release of the Papuan contingent was coupled with the handover of 9 venues and match equipment from the Papua provincial government to the Grand Committee of National Paralympic Week XVI as well as swimming and athletics test event at Lukas Enembe Main Stadium in Kampung Harapan, Sentani, Jayapura Regency,
The Governor of Papua at the beginning of his speech also expressed his gratitude to all components of the Papuan community who had supported the successful implementation of National Sports Week XX.
