JAYAPURA - The Papua Information Commission encourages public agencies to more openly convey information in general for public consumption as mandated by the Public Information Disclosure Law.
This was conveyed by the Commissioner of the Information Commission of The Province of Papua, Syamsuddin Levi at the Socialization and Strengthening of Public Information Disclosure for the mass media, which was attended by a number of journalists in Jayapura City, Papua, Thursday (7/4/2022).
He assessed, until now, problems that are often encountered there are still public agencies that have not been completely open with information in general. Thus, a lot of information that should be known to the public, cannot be accessed by them.
"Mass media also often experiences problems getting information in the news, especially information related to the budget of a public agency".
"Therefore, we encourage public agencies to be more open and this is the role of the mass media to be important to realize information disclosure," he said.
Syamsuddin said, the role of the press with the law (Press Law), can encourage and boost the level of public information disclosure informed through the mass media.
"The Information Commission as a public information disclosure management agency, has an interest in encouraging information disclosure from all stakeholders, especially in the government environment," explained Syamsuddin, Head of Research and Documentation at the Papua Provincial Information Commission.
Deputy Chairman of the Papua Provincial Information Commission, Andriani Waly said, Law No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure (UU KIP) is a path to the era of information disclosure and the implementation of a transparent and responsible state that is formally guaranteed in national law.
"This law protects the public's right to access information and provides a mechanism for the implementation of these rights and also regulates the obligation of public agencies to provide access to information to the public," he concluded. ***
