JAYAPURA – The percentage of poverty in Papua over the past six months has decreased by 0.82 percentage points, from 26.56 percent in September 2021 to 0.30 percent in March 2021.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province, Adriana Helena Carolina, in Jayapura, Monday (18/7/2022).
Nevertheless, the percentage of poverty in Papua for urban areas increased by 0.08 percentage points to 5.02 percent in March 2022.
"In September 2021, the percentage of poverty for urban areas reached 4.94 percent while rural areas fell 1.11 percentage points to 35.39 percent".
"The increase in food commodities to the Poverty Line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities, both urban and rural," she explained.
Meanwhile, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in March 2022, for urban areas was 67.42 percent, while rural areas were 78.40 percent.
Meanwhile, food commodities that have a major influence on the Poverty Line of Papua Province in urban areas are rice, filtered clove cigarettes, purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, and cobs or tuna or skipjack tuna.
"The food commodities that have a big influence on the Poverty Line in rural areas are yam, rice, filtered clove cigarettes, pork and cassava," she added. ***
