JAYAPURA – Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe asked the local Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) to aggressively produce the best athletes, who will gain achievements at the national and international levels.
This was conveyed by the Governor, when closing the running competition in commemoration of National Sports Day (Haornas) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Friday (9/9/2022) afternoon.
"Papua as a sports province must be able to produce the best athletes for Indonesia in the future through the local KONI".
"Moreover, the Presidential Decree in the near future has come down. That way we are officially a sports province, and I hope, as a sports province, sports achievements must be more advanced," said Lukas.
Although he emphasized the task of KONI Papua to produce new athletes, Lukas realized that the hard task was also the responsibility of all sports stakeholders in Papua.
"KONI's task is getting tougher, preparing the best athletes for Papua and Indonesia. So don't make you embarrassed, we must be committed to building better Papuan sports in the future," he urged.
In 2022, Indonesia celebrates the 39th Sports Day with the theme 'Together to achieve Champions'.
In this year, KONI Papua Province held a running competition which was attended by 950 participants from Papua and West Papua.
There are five numbers contested, namely the 100-meter, 200-meter, 500-meter, 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter dashes, which have been running since Wednesday, September 7, 2022. ***
