JAYAPURA - The National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) said that students in school are easy and vulnerable targets for groups who deliberately want to damage the future of the nation with an understanding of radicalism.
Therefore, BNPT encourages teachers at various levels of education in Papua to start developing learning strategies by including the values of religious moderation.
"Terrorism that begins with radicalism is a real threat to peace in Indonesia. The threat of exposure to radicalism can target any community group, including students in their respective educational institutions," explained the Head of the Environmental Security Section of the BNPT, Yaenurendra Hasmoro, in his remarks at the Train of Trainer activity to become a pioneer teacher of religious moderation through the FKPT of Papua in Jayapura, Wednesday (24/8/2022).
Hasmoro continued, not only teachers, all parties, including parents, must prioritize vigilance towards their children. Not only for safety reasons, but also to prevent the spread of radical terrorism.
"But at least we expect teachers to include the values of religious moderation, such as tolerance, national spirit, mutual respect, respect for diversity as teaching materials in the form of short videos," he added.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Papua in his written remarks read by the Head of the Papuan National Police Agency, Musa Isir invited all elements of the community in Papua to maintain the peace that has been created in Indonesia specifically in the local area.
"Indonesia is very large and has more than 270 million population, but we can get along well until now. It's different from other countries where people have forgotten God and live as they please," he said.
Musa said that many foreign countries actually want harmony in Indonesia to be divided. Therefore, the government and related stakeholders, especially teachers, have an important role to play in saving the younger generation from exposure to radicalism that can undermine harmony.
"Because these teachers are at the forefront of counteracting radicalism to students in the school environment. Then parents in the neighborhood where they live and hang out with their children," he said. ***
