JAYAPURA - The trend of increasing container transportation cost is certain to almost certainly occur as a result of rising domestic fuel prices.
The increase in container transportation rates also affects the selling price of staples supplied from outside Papua.
The Head of the Industry and Trade Department of Papua, Laduani Ladamay, estimates that the increase in container transportation tariffs, which has the potential to occur in the near future, will also increase staple food prices.
"Even so, from our observations for the time being, there has been no significant increase in the price of staples food".
"So we urge traders not to just increase the price at will beyond the price set by the government," he explained in Jayapura, Friday.
However, Laduani said that the price of eggs seems to have increased slightly from the price of staple food after the increase in fuel.
Meanwhile, the price of other staples is still stable as a result of monitoring carried out in the traditional market.
"We have urged that in the current condition of fuel increase, it is hoped that there will be no increase in other goods, the problem of increasing egg prices because there is such a high increase in animal feed prices," said Ladamay.
Regarding the assistance program due to the increase in fuel, he continued, the Industry and Trade Department of Papua is preparing a funding step. Price changes were driven by unexpected funds.
"However, we have not coordinated with the Regional Secretary as the Chairman of the budget committee. This means that if there is a price increase in the market, we will carry out market operations," he concluded. ***
