JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government reminds entrepreneurs, traders, distributors and warehouse owners not to hoard staple food.
For those who violate the provisions will be threatened with criminal article number 107 of Law Number 17 of 2014 concerning Trade.
"We sternly warn traders not to take advantage of the moment to reap more profits by hoarding. Moreover, the number of requests from residents is predicted to increase by around 50 percent ahead of Eid."
"This is what we must maintain together so that stocks are really available in the market and there is no scarcity. We also hope that colleagues from the Food Task Force from the Papua Regional Police can help supervise," explained the Head of the Papua Provincial Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs and Manpower Office, Omah Laduani Ladamay, in Jayapura, Thursday (6/4/2023).
He admitted that chili commodities in Jayapura City and its surroundings began to increase during the Holy Month of Ramadan. However, the increase in chili prices is still considered to be in the normal category.
He ensured that he would continue to monitor the price movements of chili and other commodities during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri. So that if there is a price increase beyond the normal limit, market operations and cheap markets will be carried out.
"But for the distribution of chili to Jayapura City from several areas such as Keerom Regency, this information is close to harvest. Hopefully, the supply of chili from Keerom can meet the needs of residents," said Laduani.
The Unit Head 1 of Sub-Directorate of Indaksi Dit Krimsus Polda Papua, Iptu. Max Emoliana stated that his party is ready to fully support market operations that will be carried out by the local government.
"We support working together with local governments, whether it is conducting supervision in the field or market operations ahead of Eid," he said. ***
