JAYAPURA - A total of 8,000 tons of rice for the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in Papua Province is expected to arrive in mid-May 2023.
The imported rice from abroad was supposed to arrive early in Jayapura, but due to limited loading and unloading capacity at the local Sea Port, it had to be unloaded in East Java.
"The port in Jayapura has a capacity of only 4,000 tons. So the 8,000-ton rice carrier was forced to return to East Java. After that, it was shifted to Jayapura using two ships each carrying 4,000 tons of rice."
"So it is estimated that 8,000 tons of rice will arrive in Jayapura on May 16, because the rice shift takes eight days to reach Jayapura. There are a total of 12,000 tons, but 2,000 tons are shifted to Mountain Papua and then the remaining 2,000 tons to the Central Highlands," explained the Head of the Regional Office of the Logistics Affairs Agency of Papua and West Papua Corporation, Raden Guna Dharma, Tuesday (9/5/2023), in Jayapura.
According to Raden, currently, the stock of rice in the warehouse of the Logistics Affairs Agency reaches 390 tons. It's just that the rice that exists today cannot be removed because it is still going through the treatment process. Among other things, the fumigation process is aimed at removing odors and lice in rice.
"This fumigation takes 10 days. After that, there is such a thing as refreshment, which takes four days. This treatment process has become a standard, so when consumers receive rice there will be no complaints," he said.
Therefore, Raden hopes that civil servants will not worry because the local Logistics Affairs Agency will continue to serve the needs of monthly rice requests, but not every three months. The total demand for civil servants and Armed Force / Police reaches 1,400 tons per month. ***
