JAYAPURA - Regency and city governments throughout Papua are asked to provide sufficient budget allocations to deal with stunting.
The Acting Secretary of Papua, Derek Hegemur, conveyed this at the stunting workshop agenda attended by all district and city governments throughout Papua, Wednesday (15/5/2024).
According to him, it is an effort to produce a healthy golden generation in Papua. Thus, District and City Governments are asked to carry out mapping properly so it is on the right target.
"In addition to budgeting, collaboration is needed to reduce stunting rates so that this is the task of the Central, Province, District, City Governments and related stakeholders.”
"The problem of stunting is our responsibility, we hope it can compile work programs, targets and concrete steps in synergy, in overcoming the problem," he said.
The Secretary added it is ensured that a new generation of healthy, intelligent and productive Papuans will be realized.
Thus, he also asked local governments in nine districts/cities to jointly search and find children with stunting potential, so that they do not revolve around numbers alone but there are concrete actions taken.
"Because the problem of stunting is not only influenced by maternal and child health and child nutrition but also influenced by many other factors such as the availability of adequate clean water, sanitation, social security and parenting. So that handling and prevention must be carried out thoroughly and concentrated," he said. ***
