JAYAPURA - Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun said the local government needs an active role from religious leaders, community leaders, traditional leaders and all existing elements of society, to jointly maintain stability of security and order in community life, ahead of the upcoming November 2024 regional elections.
So that the implementation of voting in the regional elections can run safely, orderly and comfortably.
This was conveyed by Governor Ridwan at the Coordination Meeting on Readiness for the Implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in the Papua Region in 2024, in Jayapura City, Wednesday (29/5/2024).
"We also sincerely hope that the election participants through the carrying political parties will also be able to maintain security stability and condition their supporters not to act outside the provisions of the applicable legislation."
"So that the simultaneous regional elections can run smoothly without any horizontal conflicts in our society," he hoped.
The Governor reminded the Regional Government's responsibility to complete the NPHD disbursement (Regional Grant Agreement Script), considering that the preparation stage for the regional elections has begun. Since April 17, 2024, the formation of PPK, PPS and KPPS for the 2024 regional elections has been carried out at the stage of fulfilling the requirements for spousal support for individual candidates.
For this reason, Ridwan hopes that all General Election Commission and General Election Supervisory Agency both at the provincial and district / city levels, can work according to existing laws and regulations so that the potential for horizontal conflict vulnerability can be minimized during the election.
"I also remind all civil servants in the Provincial, Regency / City Governments, to maintain neutrality as civil servants in their respective work environments," he appealed.
In addition to being attended by Regents and Mayors, the 2024 Regional Election Readiness Meeting in Papua was also attended by National Army and Police officials as well as the General Election Commission and General Election Supervisory Agency.
