JAYAPURA - Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun hopes that in the spirit of transforming the national health system, the role of midwives can contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and stunting.
This was conveyed by the Governor in a written speech read by the Governor's Expert Staff, Eddy Purwoko, at the VIII regional deliberations of IBI Papua in 2024 held in Jayapura, Friday (12/7/2024).
"I also invite all of us to play an active role and jointly commit to improving the health of mothers and children, for a better future for Papua," said the governor.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Central Indonesian Midwives Association (IBU), Dr. Ade Jubaedah, hopes that the organization can encourage government programs to save mothers and children and reduce stunting rates.
He also hopes that the three New Autonomous Regions can immediately form IBI to work with the government to encourage maximum health services for mothers and children.
The Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Christian Sohilait, mentioned the importance of the role of midwives in determining the survival of humanity.
Because according to Christian, the existence of midwives should not be underestimated by anyone.
"Because midwives are the ones who determine the first breath of human life," he said.
Christian on this occasion assessed that the implementation of this Regional Conference was very important. Apart from being a place to choose new administrators, it is also a means of evaluating cases that occur in the region.
"There may be cases found during the delivery process by midwives in area A, for example. Then other midwives have also found similar cases and were able to overcome them, so they can exchange ideas with each other as well," said Christian. ***
