JAYAPURA - The Papua Communication and Informatics Service appeals to the residents of Papua to be aware of the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on digital platforms, which aims to spread hoaxes ahead of the 2024 Regional Elections and other online crimes.
According to the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Office, Jeri A. Yudianto, AI is designed to help and facilitate complex tasks for manufacturers, banks, and governments quickly and efficiently.
However, today, people as users of digital platforms are often treated to AI visual shows that are inflammatory and have the potential to cause conflicts and divisions in this political year.
Therefore, he appealed to residents to confirm a number of AI or similar visual impressions that are inciting or giving rise to the nuances of disputes. Artificial intelligence has recently been widely used to spread hoaxes (fake news).
"Of course, this AI is widely used to support the performance of both businesses and governments. But it should be realized that any confirmation on the platform is still needed. As platform users, we must use it wisely," explained Jeri in Jayapura City, Monday (15/7/2024).
Generally, according to Jeri Yudianto, AI technology often abused by certain parties to create hoaxes is deep fake. The Deep Fake program is an AI technology product generally in the form of images, audio, or videos made as if they are real.
The visual is made as if the character in the video is conveying a call to do a certain thing.
"So, it is very important for the public to understand its characteristics so as not to be deceived," said Jeri.
Previously, visual impressions in the form of AI by certain figures were widely circulated that had the potential to divide unity ahead of the November 27, 2024 Regional Elections. The visual impression circulated on the WhatsApp, social media platform of Jayapura residents and its surroundings. ***
