JAYAPURA – To promote transparency and prevent corruption in the use of village funds, the Provincial Government of Papua, in collaboration with the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Regency/City Governments across Papua Province, held a Socialization of the "Village Guard Prosecutor" program and a Technical Guidance on the Replication of Anti-Corruption Villages. (June 19)
The Acting Governor of Papua, through a speech delivered by the Assistant I to the Regional Secretary of Papua Province, Yohanes Walilo, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building clean, accountable, and corruption-free governance at the village level. “I express my appreciation for the initiative and cooperation established between the Attorney General’s Office, Corruption Eradication Commission, and local governments. The presence of prosecutors in village communities is a concrete form of legal assistance to ensure that village fund management is transparent, well-targeted, and impactful,” said Walilo.
Walilo further emphasized that over the past decade, a substantial amount of village funds has been directly distributed to villages. Therefore, supervision, guidance, and integrity enhancement of village officials are crucial to prevent fund misappropriation that could hinder grassroots development.
Through this initiative, the Papua Provincial Government hopes that villages can become the frontline of corruption-free development; that the oversight of village funds will be conducted collaboratively and continuously; and that the replication of Anti-Corruption Villages in Papua can begin and be widely adopted as a model of good village governance.
This event also marks an important momentum to strengthen synergy between law enforcement and local governments in ensuring that village funds are genuinely utilized to maximize public welfare. ***
