JAKARTA – Just one day after being inaugurated as Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni held a coordination meeting attended by all regents and mayors across Papua to discuss optimizing the realization of regional budget revenue and expenditure for 2025 in Papua. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format via Zoom and at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Jakarta, on Tuesday (July 8, 2025).
“As part of our commitment in Papua to optimize regional revenue and expenditure, we are holding this meeting today. So today’s meeting is to discuss how to optimize the implementation of the APBD, both in terms of revenue and expenditure,” said Fatoni.
In his address, Fatoni emphasized the importance of the coordination meeting as a strategic platform to strengthen inter-regional coordination in fiscal management. He also highlighted the need to accelerate the realization of regional transfer funds, especially entering the second half of the fiscal year.
“Therefore, follow-up from the regents and mayors is expected, adjusting and preparing the necessary data, documents, and requirements as stipulated. Hopefully, if all those can be fulfilled, then revenue in our regions—both at the provincial and regency levels—can increase,” Fatoni explained.
Fatoni also encouraged all parties to actively formulate strategies to increase locally generated revenue and promote efficiency in budget utilization.
“Once again, I’d like to thank all the regents and mayors, vice regents and mayors, speakers, and regional secretaries who have supported this process. Hopefully, this coordination meeting among regents and mayors across Papua will be beneficial, bring progress to the land of Papua—especially the Province of Papua—and bring prosperity to its people,” he added.
On the same occasion, the attending regents and mayors expressed hope that this meeting would lead to fundamental changes in the transfer of funds to districts and cities in Papua Province.
It is hoped that this event marks the beginning of collaborative efforts among local governments in Papua to improve the quality of fiscal management, with full support from the provincial government and encouragement for the central government to be more responsive to the actual conditions in Papua. ***
