JAYAPURA – Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Office for Social Affairs, Population, and Civil Registry, Djong H. Makanuay, expressed hope that by the end of October 2025, the office’s budget absorption could reach 60 to 70 percent.
He stated that the 2025 budget allocated by the government has been designated for social and community-based programs, ranging from empowerment initiatives for vulnerable women to support activities in social care institutions.
“Almost all of our activities are funded through the Special Autonomy funds, and their use must be managed carefully,” he explained.
Makanuay further clarified that the Special Autonomy funds are directed toward social assistance programs, including stunting prevention, community economic empowerment, and productivity training for residents.
“Recently, we conducted capacity-building training for women facing social and economic vulnerabilities, including culinary and baking workshops for mothers and speedboat-making training for young people,” he said.
During these training programs, the Social Affairs Office also provided materials and equipment as initial capital to help participants start their own businesses.
“We aim to empower these vulnerable women so they can earn a living and improve their quality of life,” he concluded. ***
