JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is preparing plans to relocate the Office of the Border Management and Cooperation Agency to a safer and more representative location. This step is being taken to ensure that government services continue to operate optimally amid recurring flood risks.
Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri conducted an on-site inspection of the office in Jayapura City on Thursday (December 11, 2025). During the inspection, the governor emphasized that relocation has become an urgent necessity, as the office has been inundated by flooding on multiple occasions.
“This office is no longer suitable because it is frequently flooded. Based on reports, flooding has occurred six times,” Fakhiri said.
The Papua Provincial Government is targeting a new location that is free from flood risks and capable of supporting all administrative and operational activities of the Border Management and Cooperation Agency. In addition to safety considerations, the new location will also take into account ease of access to Papua New Guinea border areas.
The governor stated that relevant regional agencies have been instructed to identify and evaluate provincial government-owned land assets, particularly in the Holtekamp and Koya areas, as potential relocation sites.
In addition to constructing a new office building, the Papua Provincial Government is also planning to provide housing for assigned staff. These facilities are expected to support employee performance and enhance the effectiveness of public services.
“With a more suitable location, employees can work with greater focus and productivity,” Fakhiri said.
He added that planning for the construction of the new office is expected to begin in the next fiscal year. The Papua Provincial Government hopes that the relocation can be realized promptly as part of asset management restructuring and efforts to strengthen government service functions in border areas. ***
