The Papua Provincial Fisheries Cooperative Associationencourages the extension of the Special Autonomy Law, as it is considered to have touched the interests of the lower levels of society through various government-implemented programs.
The Chairman of the Fisheries Cooperative Association Papua Salmon Patai claimed, in his statement to the press, Wednesday (10/21/2020) evening.
According to him, the Special Autonomy Act did not actually fail. It's just that the executors haven't done their utmost.
"Actually Special Autonomy has an impact for us, therefore, we support and encourage this act to continue," he explained.
He exemplifies when the local government established a Special Autonomy funding assistance program for Papuan fishermen, which directly touched local fishermen.
It's just that, over time, the program's sustainability has stalled, so that local fishermen no longer feel the assistance through the special autonomy fund.
"This makes Papuans ultimately judge special autonomy as failure".
"That's why in the future this kind of assistance program should be re-activated. So Fisheries Cooperative Association can build the office, one example," he said.
Another important thing, he added, there needs to be regular training once a year for fishermen in the field of the latest technology in the cultivation or fishing of catch.
With the renewal of the science, it is hoped that fishermen can be helped in developing or selling their catch abroad or abroad.
