The countdown of 362 days leading to the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) 2021 was officially held simultaneously with the inauguration of the venue and the naming of the Lukas Enembe Stadium, in Kampung Harapan Jayapura Regency, Friday (10/23/2020).
The chairman of National Sports Week Committee Papua Yunus Wonda, who marked the countdown with throwing of a spear, asked for public support so that the national agenda could be implemented on time in all clusters.
"By starting the countdown of the 362 days implementation of National Sports Week, it's a sign that time is getting closer. So that all National Sports Week Committee, KONI, local government and government in all clusters of implementations start preparing themselves".
"But the most important thing is that all Papuans must provide support. So on this occasion let's invite all Papuans to show that Papua can carry out the big event," explained Yunus Wonda.
Yunus also said with the implementation of the countdown and a series of inauguration venues, it was a sign that Papua was ready to implement the national sport event.
He also challenged all parties to jointly prove to the Central Government and all KONI in Indonesia that Papua will be a good host for all the provinces that come.
While the General Secretary of the Indonesia National Sports Committee (KONI) of Papua Kenius Kogoya expressed an apology because not all people, more specifically athletes, can attend the inauguration ceremony of a series of events in the framework of National Sports Week XX 2021.
"It is for the reason of the Covid-19 pandemic so the series of inauguration events in the framework of National Sports Week XX 2021 cannot be watched directly by Papuans," he explained.
