JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government was chosen to host the annual meeting of the Governor Forest and Climate (GCF) Task Force in 2023.
The decision resulted from the annual meeting of the Governor Forest and Climate Task Force (GCF TF) 2022 in Manaus, Brazil, Wednesday (16/3/2022) night, where the delegation of Papua Province was represented by Papua Secretary Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun.
"Papua Province was chosen as the host of GCF TF 2023 which is planned for implementation in July - August 2023. It becomes a pride for us in Indonesia, especially Papua Province," said Head of Communication and Informatics Department of Papua, Jeri A. Yudianto, via Whatsapp text message, Thursday (03/17/2022).
Previously, the Provincial Government of Papua also attended the annual meeting of the GCF (Governors Climate and Forest) Task Force or The Governor's Task Force for Forests and Climate Change in Manaus City, Amazonas State of Brazil on Wednesday.
In the event, the Papua Provincial delegation brought non-timber forest products in the form of Noken and introduced to the world community. Also honey, sago and wood oil.
All the products displayed are the result of the cooperation of indigenous peoples with the Papua Forest and Environment Service through the Forest Management Unit and the Forest and Environment Service Branch," explained DKLH Papua Forestry Planning Commissioner, Estiko Tri Wiradyo who participated in the Papua Provincial Government delegation.
Papua Province is one of the founders of the GCF Task Force with 9 states / provinces namely Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Maranhao, Mato Grosso, Para (Brazil), California, Illinois (United States), Aceh and Papua (Indonesia) in 2009 - 2010.
The event was held from March 15 to 19, 2022, where the substance discussed in the meeting was about the forestry economy and tenure rights, the integration of technology with knowledge and local wisdom and the support of parties related to the forestry and climate economy. ***
