JAYAPURA - In order to welcome the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Papua Provincial Government will launch a movement of 10 million red and white flags on Friday (5/8/2022), which will be centered in Merauke Regency.

According to the Head of the Communication and Informatics Department of Papua, Jeri Agus Yudianto, the 10 million red and white flag movement is a national program that is implemented simultaneously throughout Indonesia. 

This activity is a series in order to welcome the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia as instructed by the central government.

"It is implemented to be centered in Merauke. It will be launched on August 5, 2022, and hopefully this announcement will get the full support of the community," explained Jeri in Jayapura, Thursday (4/8/2022).

Still, according to Jeri, the 10 million red and white flag movement aims to encourage the improvement of the regional economy so that it will quickly recover and rise stronger after a pandemic for two years.

Meanwhile, Merauke chose to be the center of the red and white flag movement, he continued, because it is at the easternmost point of Indonesia. So we will distribute red and white flags for free to the community. 

"We hope that through the activities, it can stir up the spirit of independence and the spirit to recover faster and rise stronger," he said. ***
