JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government is still having difficulty recording the number of victims due to extreme weather in Kuyawage District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua.
This was conveyed by the Chief Executive of the Papua Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Welliam R. Manderi, Friday (5/8/2022), in Jayapura.
According to him, the BPBD Papua team together with the Central National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) have actually tried to record disaster victims directly to three villages in Kuyawage District, which were affected by frost. Unfortunately due to safety considerations, the team was then not allowed to travel.
"So that the team that has left for Tiom, the capital of Lanny Jaya, to go to the location of the affected point, but the Lanny Jaya Police Chief did not permit because of the safety factor," he said.
Manderi hopes that all victims affected by the frost disaster will be recorded soon. The data will be used to identify the amount of aid that will be distributed there, both through the Papua Provincial Government and the central government.
Previously, the Manager of the Operations Control Center for Papua Province of BPBD, Jonathan Koirewoa, confirmed that the Lanny Jaya Regency Government had determined the emergency response status for the disaster that occurred in Kuyawage District.
The Decree for emergency response status has been set by the local government, but because it is not in accordance with the management guidelines of the disaster emergency management command system, it was revised and has been set on August 4, 2022.
The Regent's Decree on the emergency response status of frost and disaster in Lanny Jaya Regency is valid for 90 days from July 25 to October 25, 2022.
Meanwhile, due to the frost disaster in Lanny Jaya, as many as four people were reported to have died. It consists of two adults and two toddlers. Meanwhile, 61 people were reported to be mildly ill. Total affected by frost reached 548 people. ***
