JAYAPURA - To control the rate of inflation in Cenderawasih Earth, the Papua Provincial Government has begun to promote the chilies planting movement that began in Keerom Regency.
Chilies planting was led by the Regional Secretary of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun who was accompanied by a number of heads of provincial-level Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD).
According to the Expert Staff of the Regional Secretary of Papua, Ferdinand Risamasu, the chilies planting program is also a follow-up to the instructions of central government for the provincial government to make a breakthrough in order to control inflation in the region.
"That's why the Papuan government is looking for land in Keerom to anticipate the rising inflation rate due to the limited availability of staples," he explained to the press, after planting chili, Tuesday (11/15/2022).
Not only chilies, continued Ferdinand, the Papuan Government also targets to plant various commodities on an area of 200 hectares in Keerom.
"Like onions and tomatoes. Indeed, the stock of commodities is limited so we encourage that on 200 hectares of land, a number of these commodities are planted," he said.
Deputy Regent of Keerom, Wahfir Kosasi on the same occasion stated that he was ready to support the Papua Provincial Government program. The Keerom Local Government has provided vacant land for farmers to use to plant commodities such as chili and others.
"This means that through this chili planting promotion program, I hope that in the future we can strengthen each other in controlling the rate of inflation in the regions. Because indeed 80 percent of residents in Keerom Regency are engaged in the agricultural sector," he said. ***
