JAYAPURA - Expert Staff of the Governor of Papua, Donatus Mote hopes that marine and fisheries development must be planned and implemented through the concept of development from upstream to downstream in an integrated and sustainable manner.
It is important because the marine and fisheries sector is one of the sectors that has a double effect on economic development in the Land of Papua.
"The development must also be in accordance with the policies of each new province," explained Mote in Jayapura. At the Coordination Forum for Regional Apparatus Organizations to discuss marine and fisheries development planning after the establishment of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Papua, Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Papua Marine and Fisheries Service, Iman Djuniawal, revealed that this Coordination Forum is a means of synchronization, consolidation and coordination between related parties in planning marine and fisheries development after the DOB.
"It's still a big question, what it will be, where we are going and what it will become. We must discuss this because marine and fisheries are the leading sectors of Papua and we were collectively together but had to be separated because of the DOB policy," explained Iman.
Iman added that some of the policies taken, especially regarding the budgeting of activities in 2023, have also separated the main province and the new province, while his own party has 19 technical implementation units in the new province.
"How do we have a fish port in Pomako, that's a question. This is what we have to talk about to get information and stuff. Maybe the strategy is that the state budget will be deposited in the main province to back-up the existing technical implementation units in three new provinces," he said. ***
