JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government is pushing back the holding of the Cross Border Festival of Post Cross Border in Skouw, Jayapura City, which had been vacant after the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.
According to the Acting Assistant Secretary of Papua for Economic Affairs and People Welfare, Suzana Wanggai, the holding of the festival activities will again stimulate the economy of the border region.
"It will increase income for the region as well as income for traders around the border location."
"This means that the Cross Border Festival at PLBN Skouw will attract quite a large number of visitors so there will be an economic turnaround," said Suzana, in Jayapura on Tuesday.
The efforts to push the Cross Border Festival agenda continued Suzana, responded to President Jokowi's working visit last March in Jayapura, with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno.
On that occasion, Minister Sandiaga, directly appreciated PLBN Skouw which is the front gate in the east of Indonesia.
"Minister Sandiaga also feels interested in managing tourism at PLBN Skouw. Namely by encouraging the Cross Border Festival with a target of attracting 2,000 foreign tourists who will display cultural arts, films and other related events," said Assistant Suzana imitating Minister Sandiaga.
Suzana still said the Papua Provincial Government welcomed the re-holding of the cross-border festival at the Skouw State Cross Border Post.
It is very important to reactivate the Festival. Especially now that it has escaped from the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Previously Cross Border at PLBN Skouw was held every year, we hope that this year it can be held again."
"Moreover, the Cross Border Festival at PLBN Skouw is very good to maintain relations between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea," she said. ***
