JAYAPURA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Papua recorded that the April 2023 Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) of 100.62 increased by 0.21 percent compared to the previous month. It was triggered by an increase in the Household Consumption Index (IKRT) by 0.16 percent.
According to the Head of BPS Papua Adriana Helena Carolina, the increase of the Farmer Exchange Rate in April 2023 was triggered by the increase in IKRT which was also affected by the increase in the price index in the household expenditure group.
In line with the national IKRT in April 2023, it was recorded to have increased by 0.14 percent.
"Farmer Exchange Rate is obtained from the comparison of the farmer received price index against the farmer paid price index which in its percentage is one indicator to see the ability or purchasing power of farmers in rural areas."
"Farmer Exchange Rate also shows the exchange power (term of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs. The higher the Farmer Exchange Rate, relatively speaking, the stronger the level of purchasing power of farmers," explained Adriana in Jayapura, Wednesday.
She added, based on monitoring rural prices in Papua by her party, it was also seen that the change in the Farmer Exchange Rate index was also caused by the received price index rising by 0.42 percent, faster than the increase in the paid price index by 0.20 percent.
"Changes in the index figures that occurred were as follows, the food crop subsector rose 0.36 percent, the horticulture subsector fell 0.42 percent, the community plantation crop subsector fell 0.08 percent, the Livestock subsector rose 0.54 percent, and the fisheries sub-sector fell 0.68 percent," she said. ***
