JAYAPURA - The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors reportedly absorb the most workers in Papua reaching 69.94 percent.
This is as announced by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Papua through the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) in February 2023.
According to the Head of BPS Papua Province Adriana Helena Carolina in Jayapura, in addition to agriculture, forestry and fisheries, there is also wholesale and retail trade, repair and maintenance of cars and motorcycles by 8.02 percent and government administration, defense, and guarantees by 4.53 percent.
"Yes, if we look at this, the employment in absorbing this workforce is still the same as February 2022," said Adriana, in Jayapura, Monday.
While explaining that the working-age population in February 2023 was 3.27 million people, Adriana continued an increase of 45.19 thousand people compared to February 2022. Where most of the working-age population constitutes a labor force of 2.51 million people, the rest includes the non-labor force of 758.41 thousand people.
"The composition of the labor force in February 2023 consists of 2.42 million working people and 87.51 thousand unemployed people. Compared to February 2022, the number of the labor force decreased by 76.22 thousand people. The working population fell by 70.67 thousand people, while unemployment fell by 5.55 thousand people," she said.
It is known that the increase in Papua Province Labor Force Participation (TPAK) decreased compared to February 2022. TPAK in February 2023 was 76.79 percent, down 3.44 percentage points compared to February 2022. ***
