JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua, Monday, May 15, 2023, officially handed over a cooperation document for coaching the achievements of Papuan athletes to PT Freeport Indonesia, at Freeport Indonesia Head Office, Jakarta.
The submission of the cooperation document for the development of Papuan athletes' achievements was by the Chairman of KONI Papua Dr. Kenius Kogoya and received by Arland Suruan, External Outreach CorCom PT Freeport Indonesia.
"The achievement coaching proposal has been submitted to PT Freeport to follow- up. We are waiting to get an analysis and response from PT Freeport," Kenius told the press, Tuesday (16/5/2023).
Kenius is optimistic that PT Freeport supports the development of achievements in the Land of Papua because the United States company has supported the development and implementation of the sports world in Papua so far.
"PT Freeport plays a big role in sports development in Papua. We are optimistic to get support from Freeport to continue fostering achievements in the land of Papua," he said.
The submission of this cooperation proposal document is a follow-up to the meeting between KONI and PT Freeport on May 2, 2023, at Freeport Indonesia Head Office, Jakarta. In the meeting, both parties agreed to continue cooperation in fostering the achievements of the best Papuan athletes.
Vice President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Jenpino Ngabdi conveyed to KONI to immediately submit a request for activities and cooperation to the President Director of PT. Freeport Indonesia.
Kenius Kogoya in the meeting said that sustainable cooperation between PT Freeport and KONI Papua related to the development of Papuan athletes, sponsorship from each sub-contractor company in Freeport to become the supporter of sports branches and the welfare of sports players.
"We all know that Freeport is the main sponsor of the proud Papuan team Persipura Jayapura. In addition, it also became the main sponsor during the XX Papua PON. PT Freeport also built international sports venues in Timika such as the Mimika Sports Center and other venues. We are grateful that Freeport continues to support the development of our best athletes," he said.
According to him, continued support for the development of Papuan athletes has been running with the implementation of the National Training (Pelatnas) Athletics at the Mimika Sports Center complex, Mimika Regency. Freeport will also provide sponsorship donations for Papuan athletes to appear in national and international sports. ***
