JAYAPURA - The management of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Papua for the 2022-2027 devotional period was officially inaugurated, Monday (10/7), at the Swiss Hotel Jayapura.
The inauguration by the Head of the Central Indonesian Journalists Association, Atal Depari, along with the inauguration of three Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association of Highland Papua, Central Papua and South Papua.
Papua Governor, Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun, who witnessed the inauguration, hoped that the local Indonesian Journalists Association could continue to facilitate mass media and journalists in Papua to convey information to the public in an open, independent and trustworthy manner.
"So that the public can distinguish which information is true or not, which information is subjective or not. That way, the role of the Indonesian Journalists Association is to participate with the Papua Provincial Government in fighting hoaxes or fake news," said Governor Ridwan.
He also appealed to the local Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) to remain consistent as part of the pillars of democracy and jointly fight fake news or hoaxes in Papua.
"The role of the media is very influential on the growth of development news in synergy with the government," he said.
Ridwan on that occasion invited PWI and all journalists to foster awareness and commitment and play a role in the development of the nation and state.
"Änd also to increase journalists' adherence to the image, credibility and journalistic code of ethics," he invited.
Head of Central Indonesian Journalists Association, Atal Depari invited all PWIs both in Papua and the three New Autonomous Regions to oversee the development process in the local area.
"I think PWI quickly took steps because the formation of PWI, especially in New Autonomous Regions, means that PWI will be involved in developing in the area along with government instruments," he said.
He hopes that the definitive management of PWI in the three New Autonomous Regions can be formed in these three months so that the press can optimally publish information on all ongoing development processes. ***
